1331-Queen Andula ruled in proxy with the Sohman Senate until her death in 1115. After her death, the county became somewhat divided, as the many races vied for power in the mixed county. Democracy ruled tentatively but the country called out for strong leadership. The eladrin eventually came to power (gaining the majority of senators) and somewhat re-invented the city of Sohma into an eladrin paradise. Both eladrin and wood elves celebrated their culture and original ideals of the Sohman philosophy. In the year 1220, a new leader emerged-Queen Alara of Sohma-considered by many to be the Oracle and the Mouthpiece of Mealla, the Eladrin goddess herself. She has ruled now for over a century, and although a Senate still exists, democracy has faded to the background as the people look with a zealot-like passion to their beautiful, compassionate elven benefactor. The nation’s borders are often open to any elf race (minus the dark elves) and half elves and will welcome humans-but other races are considered to foreign to contaminate their pristine white walls. Mages, clerics, and bards feel perfectly at home in the beautiful county.
ALSO for the past 100 years, great earthquakes have plagued both Sohma and their Southern neighbor, Sternberg. About 50 years ago, a rift opened, dividing the nations with water and almost setting the mainland of Sternberg adrift. Some of the more fanatical Sohmans say the gods are punishing the Sternberg people for drifting to piracy and banditry after the destruction of their capital city, Raftfleet, during the War of Nations. Queen Alara has tried her best to mend the ties between the once friendly nations, but it has been an uphill battle.
1081-Probably the most beautiful of the countries in Nevermore, Sohma is a Grecian style country, notable for it’s dedication to the arts. Good, art, beauty, truth, and love and considered pinacles of the Sohman lifestyle, and the inhabitants dedicate themselves to reflecting these ideals in their cities. The architecture is Greek style, with emphasis on paved roads, large open style structures, and white marble. Sohma is ruled by the unmarried medusa, Queen Andula, who surrounds herself with a large noble guard called the Queen’s Roses. Sohma is also know for staying neutral during the many wars that have occurred in Nevermore, until recently, when the Queen was persuaded to take the side of the Calican army after the war spread to the Sohman capital city of Sephor.
